In the film, Agent Carter, the director uses camera shots, editing, sound, and mise-en-scene to convey Agent Carter’s struggles as a woman in her job after the end of World War II. The combination of over the shoulder and close up shots to show the discrimination that Peggy faces in the office. It shows the men from a low angle to demonstrate their superiority over her. After Agent Carter decides to go off on her own, they use more zoomed out shots to show her increase in confidence once she enters the field where she specializes. In the scene where Peggy approaches the building where zodiac is hiding, the radio is playing in the background and the camera angle shows the main guard sitting while Peggy is talking to the other guards outside. The music and Agent Carter being in the background tell the viewer that the main guard is not paying any attention to what is going on outside and he does not see Agent Carter as a threat. For this assignment, I decided to watch The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. I chose this movie because I watched the first one for an assignment a few weeks ago and never got around to finishing the last movie. Setting: Towards the end of the movie, after the war had ended, Katniss goes to see President Snow where he is being held captive. When she walks in we see that their meeting is in a greenhouse. It is snowing outside, but the greenhouse has kept all of the white rose plants alive. This setting is very symbolic for their meeting because white roses are a symbol for President Snow and he uses them throughout the series to torment Katniss and remind her that he is in control of everything. In this scene, they are surrounded by rose plants, but President Snow is not in control at all. Contrast:  For the contrast section, I added booing in the background for the first clip and a voiceover to the second clip. The booing would be considered postsynchronize dubbing because it was added in after the scene was filmed. The booing makes it seem like there are lots of other people watching the fight between me and Loren. In the second clip, there is a voiceover. The voiceover explains more detail of what happens after the fight.  Parallelism: For the clips in the parallelism section I added bubble noises. This would be considered synchronous sound because it matches the parallelism between the water scenes in this section.  Symbolism: For the symbolism section I added a school bell at the end of the first clip and then left the diegetic sound for the second clip. The bell would be postsynchronize dubbing because it was added after the clip was filmed.   Contrast: This first clip is the first major cut in the movie, The Hunger Games. The movie starts off by showing the head game maker in an interview. Then it cuts to a shot of District Twelve. In the first shot, there are colors and the two men are wearing fancy clothes. In the second shot, the colors are bland and there are wooden buildings and dirt roads. The purpose of this cut is to show the stark differences between the capitol and District Twelve. Without this cut, the viewers would not be able to make a direct comparison between life in the Capital and life in District Twelve.  Simultaneity: This scene consists of various cuts in the forty seconds before the Hunger Games starts. It starts with one of the game makers counting down from the control center. Next, it cuts to some people in the Captial partying.   The first editing technique was contrast. The first shot is of me and Loren fighting in the hallway, then it cuts to a shot of me and Loren talking and being friends again. The next editing technique is parallelism. The first shot zooms in to the water in a cooler and then fades to the water of the pool. These two scenes are connected by their focus on water. The next editing technique is symbolism. For this technique, we cut from me drawing the math symbol pi to an actual pie from the grocery store. Even though these two things do not mean the same thing, they are pronounced the same way and are sometimes joked as connecting to each other. The next editing technique is simultaneity. For this one, it cuts back and forth between me studying hard and Loren asleep with her books open.  I chose the movie Cruella because it is a newly released Disney movie. This movie is new and action-packed and has lots of different and unique camera angles.  The first scene is a close-up of Cruella right after she was born. This close-up shows the details of her as a baby and focuses on her hair which is black on one side and white on the other. Only a close-up shot could emphasize Cruella’s hair like this scene does. This is very important to the movie because the hair is Cruella’s defining feature. The hair symbolizes Cruella’s split personality between Estella who has dyed red hair and Cruella who has her natural split black and white hair. This close-up shot also shows how Cruella is unique even as a newborn baby and this will affect her throughout the whole movie.  The second shot is a follow shot of Cruella when she is in primary school.
