Q3 Week 1 - Brainstorming

1. Rise:

We saw a wide variety of shots including many close-up shots to focus on certain items like the player's shoes or soccer ball. The editor also used big letters to tell the viewer the title, actors, editors, etc. There was music in the background that set the scene and gave the viewer the feeling that the soccer player was working hard.

2. Dear Lover:

The main thing noticeable about this opening is the sound. The students used a voiceover to narrate the story of the main character. The different angles and views of the pond showed the viewer that the character was sad and lonely. The music also set the vibe of sad and loneliness. The words on the screen were less bold and more mellow matching the topic of the film.

3. Dare to Thrill:

This film had lots of electric music that at first made us think it was a game and the kids were just going on a fun dare ride. At the end there was low-angle shot from the trunk showing the viewer that there is something in the trunk that scared the kids. The follow shots in the beginning showed the viewer that the kids were in a hurry and were excited.

4. Always Watching:

This opening used lots of low-key lighting to show the darkness of what the character was saying. There were many dark shots of the character watching his friend making the viewer wonder what he did to him. The music also made this film very suspenseful. The switching between the flashback with the voice-over and the shots with the dietetic sound showed the viewer that whatever the character did already happened and we are hearing his side of the story.

5. The Blue Boar:

At the end of this opening there was a symbolism cut that showed the girl making a boar out of leaves and then cut to an outline of a boar and showed the title. This cut tells the viewer a little bit about what the movie is going to be about and shows the relationship between the plot and the title. The music in the beginning is happy and the character is the one signing. It shows the viewer that this will be like a coming of age film and the character will find herself on the way.

6. White Coat:

This opening had ominous music which set the tone for the opening. The music combined with the low-key lighting showed the viewer that this science lab is not a good place. The close-up shots of the beaker and different experiments showed the viewers that the scientist is experimenting with chemicals. One close-up shot showed a red liquid and left the viewer wondering if the scientist was experimenting with blood.

7. Stalker:

The lack of sound showed the viewer that the character was by herself and minding her own business, but it also gave a creepy feeling to the viewer. The spots where there was sound, it was very creepy and showed the viewer that there is someone else there and someone was watching here. The different cuts showed the different parts of the character's day and told the viewer that she had the feeling that someone is watching her throughout her whole day.

8. Nostalgia:

The close-up shots of the painting and the picture show that the character is reminiscing on the past. The piano music told the viewer that this is going to be a sad film. The young girl at the end made the viewers want to keep watching to find out if the girl is her grandaughter or a younger version of herself. The high-key lighting showed the viewer that this is not going to be a dark movie.

Overall, the intros had very good music choices that told the viewer what the genre and feel of the film will be. Some of the acting and symbolism in these intros was not good, but for home movie intros there were well done.
