Q3 Week 1 - Brainstorming

1. Rise: We saw a wide variety of shots including many close-up shots to focus on certain items like the player's shoes or soccer ball. The editor also used big letters to tell the viewer the title, actors, editors, etc. There was music in the background that set the scene and gave the viewer the feeling that the soccer player was working hard.  2. Dear Lover: The main thing noticeable about this opening is the sound. The students used a voiceover to narrate the story of the main character. The different angles and views of the pond showed the viewer that the character was sad and lonely. The music also set the vibe of sad and loneliness. The words on the screen were less bold and more mellow matching the topic of the film.  3. Film Opening Research #2: Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark

 1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?  Twenty 2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?  Jungle and dark images are prioritized. 3. What connotations do the images carry?  These images carry the connotations of danger and adventure.  4. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?  The genre is reinforced through the scene of betrayal and booby traps.  5. How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?  Throughout the whole intro Indiana Jones is trying to get a gold statue and it has encaptivated the viewers because they want to know the importance of the gold statue.  6. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?  The film has lots of danger and action in the beginning to target people who are looking for an action movie.  7. Film Opening Research #1: Thor Ragarok

 1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?  Two, the Marvel intro and the Thor Ragnarok title.  2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?  It is prioritized that Thor is being held prisoner and that his captor wants to destroy Asgard.  3. What connotations do the images carry?  These images carry a very dark and doomsday connotation.  4. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?  The action genre is enforced through the doomsday that is going to happen, the bad guy, and a big fight scene in the intro.  5. How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?  It prophesizes an inevitable doomsday to Thor's home.  6. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?  The name Thor tells viewers that it is part of the Thor movie series. The big fight scene in the beginning attracts people looking for an action movie....
